Week 05 Origination

Today we had a guest speaker, Jobst Herman come in and share with us about the CDU branding campaign.

He spoke about the results of the research on what people think of Charles Darwin University. Here is what people thought.
- No national credibility
- Semi-professional due to inconsistent image
- Multiple logo's and variations, inconsistent colours, etc.

After the break we came in and Sunita then reported to the class on the exhibition regarding the updated timetable.

Reading Quiz

Describe the relationship between teaching and learning according to Maeda?
A good teacher communicates and helps facilitate a learning environment. A good teacher brings himself down to the same level as the student, trying to understand there train of thought and there knowledge.

Describe the importance of the use of metaphors in learning, why would you use
them, how, give an example?

He used the metaphor "if you enjoy something, you soak it up like a sponge." It adds expression to the context and adds colour to the language, making you look at it from a different perspective.

BRAIN - what does the acronym stand for – why is it important?

Basics are the beginning
Repeat yourself often
Avoid creating desperation
Inspire with examples     Use other peoples work for inspiration
Never forget to repeat yourself

Describe a situation where you have been required to teach someone a skill.
How could you apply the BRAIN principle to it?

I had to teach someone to use the pen tool in Illustrator and I found that I had to repeat myself often to make sure it stuck in there heads. I inspired by showing examples and demonstrating how to use it. I showed the basics, starting on a simple object instead of going into detail.
